Efficiency and Environmental Practices

Sustainability

All new investments are planned considering the efficiency and environmental conditions at TEI. Natural gas, power, water, waste water and carbon footprints minimization projects and renewable resources maximization projects are among the initiatives carried out by TEI towards sustainability.

Practices of Green Building

The recently-commissioned B800 and B900 buildings of TEI have been built in line with the Green Building concept in accordance with the international energy and environmental certificate LEED criteria. Accordingly; low-e class glasses with heat and sunlight filter have been used in the buildings. Insulation thickness of the buildings has been increased with the aim of enhancing the efficiency.

Rain water, dropping onto the roofs of the B800 and B900 buildings, is collected and used for irrigation of the green areas around the buildings.

Sunvia natural sunlight illumination system automation is used at the B800 building. Thus, we don't need to use any illumination energy during daytime. In case the indoor ambient light is reduced due to clouding or blackening, sensors feel the level of illumination, and commission the internal illumination sources if so needed.

Natural Gas Consummation Improvement and Savings Initiatives

Economizers are employed at all boiler rooms serving all facility buildings and lodgments at TEI. Furthermore; solar thermal panels installed in the boiler rooms of lodgments produce hot water. Magnetic energy savings practices have been developed across the facility. Despite the rapid increase of indoor area and implementation of new processes involving heating in direct proportion to the growth of TEI in recent years, it has been achieved to keep the natural gas consumption of TEI at very low levels compared to the increase in building areas thanks to the efficiency-increasing efforts.

Forestation

Besides more than 10,000 trees which have already been planted across its facility in Eskisehir, TEI keeps planting trees at the memorial forests outside its own facility under the scope of its traditional tree planting festival organized every year.

Zero Waste Management

TEI collects all waste types including hazardous, non-hazardous, packing and domestic wastes at their sources, providing a contribution to recycling and economy. The zero waste collection equipment, procured to collect wastes at their sources, have added richness in visual terms.

In the last 3 years, TEI has contributed to recycling by collecting a total of 1266 tons of waste separately at the source according to its type, thus, 4682 trees were saved from being cut down, 39 tons of raw materials were saved, 54 tons of greenhouse gas emissions were prevented, and 7712 cubic meters of water was saved.

Based on the “Zero Waste” project implemented in TEI campuses since 2018 within the scope of social responsibility, on account of 5 June World Environment Day, waste separation units were installed by TEI in cooperation with the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks to separate the wastes at the source in Musaözü Nature Park, one of the important natural areas of Eskişehir.
