Composite Engine Parts Development Cooperation between TEI and Sabancı University

On the 2nd day of SAHA EXPO, TEI signed an agreement with Sabancı University within the scope of composite engine parts development activities.

Within the scope of the agreement signed by Prof. Mahmut F. Akşit, TEI CEO, and Prof. Yusuf Leblebici, Sabancı University Rector, “Development Project for Fan Internal Housing System Made from Composite Material in Turbofan Engines” will be carried out at the Integrated Manufacturing Technologies Research and Application Center (SU IMC), operating within the structure of Sabancı University.

The use of composite material technology in aviation allows light-weight engine design and provides a competitive solution achieving a serious advantage by providing higher strength. The use of composite materials in aviation engines is becoming widespread thanks to developing production technologies.

Taking floor at took the signing ceremony, Prof. Mahmut F. Akşit noted that they had been carrying out different projects with Sabancı University for many years, especially in the field of additive manufacturing, and that the studies to be carried out in accordance with that agreement would take this cooperation between the two institutions to the next level. Stating that the parts produced especially in the aviation industry have very difficult and complex structure, Akşit said that all the teams involved in the projects they carry out together with Sabancı University had achieved significant outputs as a result of their diligent work. Akşit “The development project of this system, which will be used in Türkiye's most powerful engine, will be an important step on this path where we will move towards more difficult projects."

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Yusuf Leblebici, Sabancı University Rector, “Sabancı University has been succeeding very important and good studies on composite materials and additive manufacturing for many years. We have been working with TEI for a long time, especially in the field of additive manufacturing, and we have obtained very good results so far. Today, in addition to all these studies, we are signing a project that will open the door to the use of composite materials also in the aviation industry. With this agreement, we, as Sabancı University, will continue to support the studies of TEI with our researchers and employees at our center. We are proud to ensure that Türkiye is one of the few countries in the world that has a voice in this field.", said.
