Türkiye's Indigenous Aviation Engine Development Capabilities Are Being Brought Together Under a Single Roof

A major restructuring is being implemented to more effectively leverage Türkiye's engineering capabilities in the field of aviation engines, accelerate development processes, and enhance specialization.

In this conext, the TF35000 and TS3000 engine projects—which are being carried out within TEI and for which the intellectual and industrial property rights belong to the Secretariat of Defence Industries (SSB)—along with material development activities, as well as the auxiliary power unit and engine programs being carried out within TRMOTOR, will be restructured under the umbrella of TEI TEKNOLOJİ, TRMOTOR's new name.

The engineering and other technical teams that have been working on the TF35000 and TS3000 programs at TEI to date will continue their work at TEI TEKNOLOJİ in order to preserve the company's accumulated knowledge and ensure project continuity.

- Engine development activities will come together at TEI TEKNOLOJİ

Founded in 1985 as a joint venture between Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ), GE Aerospace, the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation (TSKGV), and the Turkish Aeronautical Association (THK), TEI stands out as one of Türkiye's most established engineering and manufacturing organizations in the field of aviation engines. Since its founding, TEI has continuously developed its production, assembly, testing, and engineering infrastructure; today, it ranks among the leading suppliers to the world's most widespread civil and military aviation engine programs—including the CFM LEAP, GE Aerospace GEnx, and GE9X—and manufactures components for more than 50 engine programs. Having applied the manufacturing culture and engineering expertise gained through international programs to national projects, TEI plays a key role in the development and production of critical engine technologies required by the Turkish defence industry.

Founded in 2017 with the aim of developing domestic and national solutions in the field of aviation engines and power systems, TRMOTOR has become one of the key players in Türkiye's indigenous engine development ecosystem through its work on gas turbine engines and auxiliary power unit systems. With its robust technological infrastructure, skilled workforce, and advanced engineering capabilities, the company has made significant contributions to the indigenous engine projects carried out in recent years.

Engine and materials development efforts, conducted under intellectual and industrial property rights owned by SSB, will be consolidated under the TEI TEKNOLOJİ umbrella alongside TRMOTOR's auxiliary power unit and engine programs. With the new organizational structure, indigenous engine development activities will be carried out within a single organizational unit—TEI TEKNOLOJİ—with the aim of utilizing engineering resources more effectively, increasing agility in project management, and accelerating development processes.

- Set to form the backbone of development activities

The programs to be carried out under TEI TEKNOLOJİ will form the backbone of Türkiye's development activities in the field of next-generation aviation engines. Under the new organizational model, engineering teams will work toward common technical goals. Knowledge sharing, project coordination, and development processes will also be managed more effectively within a single structure.

As part of the new restructuring, the TS1400 and PD170 engine programs will continue to be carried out under TEI. This will ensure that the production, delivery, platform integration, and user needs for these engines are met without interruption. There will be no changes to TEI's existing core business areas, particularly in Parts and Module Manufacturing, Service, and Product Support.

The parties have reached an agreement on the seamless and timely transfer of the TF35000 and TS3000 programs, led by the SSB, to TEI TEKNOLOJİ, while the continuous execution of project schedules, technical activities, and existing obligations will be prioritized throughout the transition process.

Under the new organizational model, TEI will focus on production, delivery, product support, mature engine programs, and international collaborations. TEI TEKNOLOJİ, on the other hand, will specialize in indigenous engine development, auxiliary power units, materials development, and advanced R&D activities.

- The partnership with GE Aerospace will continue as before

The new restructuring will not affect TEI's current partnership structure or its international operations.

The strategic partnership between TEI and GE Aerospace, which has been successfully maintained for 41 years, will continue under the same framework.

Accordingly, TEI will maintain its strong position in the global supply chain while continuing to fulfill its production responsibilities in international civil and military engine programs.
