Fan Duct Inner Casing System of Türkiye's First Indigenous Turbofan Engine was Delivered

Türkiye's leading company in aviation engines, TEI, received the Fan Duct Inner Case, for the TEI-TF6000 Turbofan Engine for which it continues its prototype manufacturing work. The Fan Duct Inner Case which is designed and developed for the first time in our country and produced by the Integrated Manufacturing Technologies Research and Application Center (SU IMC) operating under Sabancı University, and Kordsa semi-finished products are used in its production.

The fan duct inner casing system to be used in the TEI-TF6000 Turbofan Engine enables a lightweight engine design thanks to the use of composite materials. With the high strength advantage provided by the composite material, TEI will offer a competitive solution for the indigenous turbofan engine.

Speaking at the delivery ceremony held in İstanbul, TEI CEO Prof. Mahmut F. Akşit pointed out that the manufactured part is a first in Türkiye and emphasized that the main inputs of the composite material used in its manufacture, such as epoxy, are also domestic. He also said that, “As TEI, we continue our projects intensively. As a good example of university-industry cooperation, we can supply some of the parts we need with this method. In this way, the centers continue their activities. One of our next collaborations may be the production of Front Bearing Structure Blades used in aviation engines from composite material. I would like to thank all the teams who successfully completed the project in less than a year.”

Speaking at the ceremony, Sabancı University Vice Rector for Research and Development Prof. Mehmet Yıldız said that, “As Sabancı University, we attach great importance to university-industry cooperation. We carry out important works with many companies in our Composite Technologies Center of Excellence, which is a pioneering business model especially in the field of industry. As for additive manufacturing, we have been working with TEI for a long time. In this context, we have recently implemented another project that enables the use of composite materials in the aviation industry. With this study, we are proud to have contributed to Türkiye's having a say in the aviation sector in the world. In addition to this project, we plan to continue our cooperation with TEI.”

The project to develop a fan duct inner casing system made of composite material for turbofan engines was signed between TEI and Sabancı University at SAHA EXPO 2022. In the project, the design, development and manufacturing of the composite fan duct inner casing system, which will be used for the first time in a turbofan engine in Türkiye, was successfully completed.
