Development of Superplastic Forming Process for Titanium Alloys

Titanium Alloys are widely used in aviation applications due to their advantages such as high tensile strength/density and toughness values, good corrosion resistance and endurance at high temperatures.

Hot forming methods are used to manufacture structures with a complex geometry at desired mechanical features from the titanium alloys, which are hard to process and shape due to their characteristic features. Superplastic forming is a hot forming method performed under special temperature and loading conditions.

Superplastic forming process for titanium alloys, which are used in both platform and engine applications in aviation industry, has been developed, tested and the accepted successfully in DİLEK Project. The DILEK Project was funded by the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB) and carried out by TUSAŞ and TEI in collaboration.
