Development of Titanium Investment Casting Technology for Aviation
In the scope of INCI Project, it is aimed to produce a front frame structure (FBS) of A400M engine from Ti-6Al-4V material by using vacuum investment casting method. FBS is a critical part of the engine, which enables the regular airflow entering to the compressor module and carries connecting rods between front bearing and gearbox. Titanium alloys used in aviation due to their advantages such as high strength and low density are generally manufactured by vacuum investment casting method to meet desired mechanical and metallurgical requirements.
Wax pattern and ceramic molds were manufactured, investment casting and other secondary processes were developed in Gur Metal subcontractor company thanks to INCI Project which was funded by Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB). INCI Project was successfully completed and Gur Metal was approved as a supplier of FBS part by ITP.
